When you pin people down, they will just say "Well... abortion." And here is the piece I intend to write at some point- voting Republican does not reduce abortion. At all. Not even some. The abortion rate dropped to an all time low under Obama.
And this information is easily accessible and readily apparent. In countries around the world this has been apparent.
Now of course the rejoinder is that state restrictions are causing the reduction. Except the largest fall was in blue states.
Now knowing this why isn't free contraception the number one thing the prolife movement would be pursuing right now to lower the abortion rate? I have some ideas.
Catholics are probably a majority of the prolife movement on the Right. And while they are entitled to their beliefs, one of those beliefs is that contraception is sinful. That's fine. But Protestants and evangelicals don't believe that. But it becomes lowest common denominator
It's why the prolife movement is an anti-abortion movement and not actually prolife. Some are but not as a whole effort.
Then Orthodox religious types who are prolife don't want contraception because it encourages sex. Which is amazing. Every other Faustian bargain can be made except for endorsing sex that happens anyways.
And finally they don't want socialism. These are Conservative people first and the idea of a public contraception program is ideologically anathema to them. So given these constraints, they choose only legal avenues of restriction.
So people on the Right say they will do everything to lower abortion, but like Meatloaf
It returns back to supporting a party regardless of what it does for your cause. As long as people mouth the affirming words back to them, they have their vote and then can prioritize tax cuts and Reopening everything during a Pandemic killing several hundred thousand people.
Again these conclusions are quite obvious and it takes quite a bit of tribal delusion not to see them. Which is really the problem.
Another thing- even in a post Roe world, will most states have bans under 12 weeks? 10 weeks? No.
And guess when most abortions take place-
This is a feel good movement not based on hard evidence or outcomes. The outcomes and realistic gaming of different legal frameworks is totally ignored.

Why? I have an inkling.
And this doesn't really tell the full story as the movement has become so intertwined with a single party. It's a lot of money every year.
I am prolife. I believe all life is made in Imago Dei from conception. I would like to pursue feasible policies that actually reduce abortion and there is plenty of ground there for that to happen if people leave their tribes behind.
And for goodness sake why not paid maternity leave when 65% of women work?

I was told point blank by an opponent once it's because they don't want to encourage women to work.
