Was lurking tweets about Slippi's impact, which I don't think is as obvious as we might believe (not every Smasher knew what rollback was either).
So, here's a thread on some thoughts regarding the possible benefits of having a smoother, streamlined, online Melee experience:
So, here's a thread on some thoughts regarding the possible benefits of having a smoother, streamlined, online Melee experience:
It gives Smashers from lesser explored, less Melee saturated regions, a chance to play with the rest of the world and improve. This also includes giving folks who don't have the means to travel for experience. https://twitter.com/n0ned/status/1275208642145529863
Pro-players from different regions have access to playing and practicing with each other outside of Summit and events in person. I am very excited to see how/if this impacts results, long-term! https://twitter.com/ZainNaghmi/status/1275129400372137984
Some overlap with the last tweet but, it unlocks the ability for friends (or anyone, for that matter) to play outside of their regions, at any given time! This is very wholesome to me... https://twitter.com/sleepike/status/1275154348285231107
Connect-codes & seamless direct experience gives streamers and their audience a new interaction model (and incentive to sub). Imagine, "Playing with subs today, send me your connect codes!" You could do this now, but it wouldn't be as frictionless which is critical while live.
Still on the UX: The ease of matchmaking and starting up each play session will likely increase the number of Melee players and time spent playing (sorry for sounding so corporate, lmao). Long-term effects could include more viewership, merch sold, etc. https://twitter.com/garsh0p/status/1275385092873924608
