The differences between Holy Communion in Christianity and "holy communion" in progressivism and how it relates to the non-apology of Jimmy Kimmel:
Christians find righteousness by eating the flesh and drinking the blood of Christ, the sinless one.

Progressives find righteousness by devouring the reputations of sinners.
For Christians, feasting on Christ makes us holy because it gives us the righteousness that is outside of us, righteousness that we couldn't produce ourselves.

For progressives, feasting on sinners makes us holy because exposing their sins makes us look holier by comparison.
Christ, the sinless one, willingly gives this saving flesh and blood to us.

Progressives have to forcibly take righteousness from the sinners they devour.
Because Jesus gives us righteousness through an act of forgiveness, Christians see absolution as a friend of righteousness. This encourages Christians to forgive sinners.
For progressives, you need your neighbor to be a sinner in order to acquire righteousness by devouring him. Because of this, progressives see absolution as an enemy of righteousness and will therefore not grant it to anyone under normal circumstances.
For Christians, righteousness comes from the infinite God, which means that the demand for righteousness will never be greater than the supply of righteousness.
For progressives, righteousness comes not from the infinite God, but from the finite supply of your neighbor's public sins. Because of this, you will inevitably invent sins and attribute them to your neighbor in order to make the supply of righteousness match the demand for it.
For Christians, conversion is celebrated. Because righteousness comes from God, converts won't stop us from receiving that righteousness.

For progressives, conversion is forbidden because converts can't be mined for righteousness. Only sinners can.
The only way progressives will forgive a sinner, however, is if he promises to keep providing them with other sinners to devour. And if you look at this "apology" from Jimmy Kimmel, you'll see that's precisely what he's doing:
Kimmel isn't offering an apology. He's making a promise, effectively saying, "I promise to keep sacrificing the Progressive Mass if you don't cancel me. Let me keep my show and I'll keep using it to eviscerate the Bad People and let you feast on their sins."
This Hail Mary may work to save him from progressives in this life. But it won't save him or anyone else from the wrath of God in the life to come, wrath that burns hot upon those devour the reputations of their neighbors because they won't devour the flesh of Christ.
If real salvation is something Mr. Kimmel desires, however, he would do well to remember what he learned as an altar boy. True righteousness isn't found in the blood of your neighbor. It's found in the blood of Jesus Christ.
