Subtweeting #sciencetwitter but can we not do the whole “people really don’t understand [COVID topic]” thing? They often don’t. We’ve been given *the* opportunity to help educate but often have trouble doing so simply/not condescendingly
It’s easy to ask people to trust science but hardly fair when we’re guilty of rarely interacting with a non-scientific audience let alone explaining things without the whole “well it’s actually pretty complicated” spiel
If the process is a mystery then it becomes easy to see big COVID retractions/other things scientists got wrong as evidence for not knowing what’s going on vs part of a process that often lands on the wrong answer based on available knowledge
Or without acknowledging that scientists have used “research” to justify nearly every type of bigotry/carried out horrendous experiments disproportionately on BIPOC, often without any sort of adequate consent
