Please remember that Black organizers of all experiences don’t get to turn off racism, transphobia, sexism, etc while doing the work. [THREAD]
For the past month, as visibility of my work and the work of my incredible @TheOkraProject fam has increased I have been:
-living in an apt that is not up to code (ex. broken appliances, no fire alarm, sanitation)
-self isolating in my room w/ no ac and little to no human contact

- consulting with lawyers about a racist landlord who has threatened me and my roomies w/ police, deadnamed me, & distributed a photo of my gov ID
- had my WiFi cut off by a racist white woman who used to live with us (during a pandemic when all work is remote)

- learning about multiple people who have been abused by my abuser and dealing with the emotional triggers around that

Now, I am resourceful and privileged in many ways so I’m ok! I am so grateful and humbled by the work I do. I just want to invite us all to extend grace to folks who have committed their lives to organizing. The work never ends, and while we always make it happen, we are human.
And sometimes ya girl just needs a fuckin nap!
