36 years ago today, the @Cubs came back to beat the #Cardinals 12-11 over 11 innings in what is known as the legendary “Sandberg Game.”
To celebrate the anniversary, we’ll walk you through the authentication process as if we were at Wrigley Field that afternoon.

End of the 5th inning: Wrigley Field grounds crew removes the first set of bases and MLB authenticators verify each base. Which game-used base would you want? First, second or third?
Bottom of the 6th inning: Cubs trail 9-3. A couple of walks and hits bring Sandberg to the plate. He collects his third hit of the day and two more RBI (41,42)!
The second collection of baseballs is now available at the Cubs Authentics store, including Ryno’s third hit of the day.
Bottom of the 9th inning: Cubs trail 9-8. Sandberg belts a home run (8) off Bruce Sutter and sends the game to extras!
Bottom of the 10th inning: Cubs trail 11-9. With Bobby Dernier on base, Sandberg belts another home run (9) off Sutter and ties the game again!
We did not receive the home run baseball, but a lucky fan in the bleachers did!

Bottom of the 11th inning: Tied 11-11. Cubs win on a walk-off single from Dave Owen! Limited Cubs Authentics baseballs and bases available.
Game-used dirt is collected by MLB authenticators after the game, bottled and put up for sale to benefit #CubsCharities in the following days.
Game-used baseballs, a game-used base and Sandberg’s game-used bat have been donated to the Cubs archive to forever capture this moment in Cubs history.
As Sandberg continues building his eventual MVP 1984 season, we see an increase in demand for his autographed items. Ryno graciously signs baseballs, bats and jerseys to benefit #CubsCharities.
Thanks for joining us as we looked back at the story of the “Sandberg Game.”
