Geechee was/is definitely used as a slur especially back in the day. It was used as a way to denote what was seen as country backwater ignorant heavily accented (Geechee) Black folk

The thing is folk used the name of our group and culture as the slur so that kinda makes shit muddy.

It kinda like using "Black" or "African" as a slur the issue is alotta folk only know of our name as a slur or saw our culture and language as that demeaning
The trip was it was/is used by other "well to do" Black folk see our existence as a blight on the Black race and a barrier to them achieving assimilation within the white infrastructure.

The use of the word mainly depend on context I don't trip on it being used since it our name
The issue comes when you use our name as a slur then them hands gotta come out
