NEW polling from @ppppolls finds that on the eve of the Trump administration’s filings in the #SCOTUS on June 25 to overturn the #ACA in its entirety, large majorities of voters oppose the Trump-GOP lawsuit and have major concerns about its impact on American health care.
Only 27% of voters agree with @realDonaldTrump that the #ACA should be struck down. Voters — including large percentages of independents and Republicans — have MAJOR concerns about impacts of the lawsuit. #DropTheLawsuit
72% say that the elimination of protections that stop insurance companies from denying coverage or raising costs for 135 MILLION Americans with pre-existing conditions is a major concern. This includes 61% of independents and a plurality of Republicans. #DropTheLawsuit
71% say that over 20 MILLION Americans losing their health insurance coverage if the #ACA is struck down is a major concern, including 68% of independents and a plurality of Republicans. #DropTheLawsuit
68% say allowing insurance companies to stop covering the costs of prescription drugs is a MAJOR concern, including 66% of independents and 51% of Republicans. #DropTheLawsuit
Voters also show overwhelming, bipartisan support for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act — legislation under consideration in Congress to improve health care in America.
81% support expanding #Medicaid so more low and moderate-income Americans can qualify and get treated for #coronavirus and other health care needs, including 81% of independents and 66% of Republicans.
81% support making health insurance more affordable by providing financial assistance to more moderate income people and families and increasing the amount of assistance, including 82% of independents and 70% of Republicans.
56% support ending short-term insurance plans, known as junk plans, including 58% of independents and 50% of Republicans. #NOJunkPlans
Voters also strongly support a key provision of the #HeroesAct to help the uninsured have access to affordable health care.
76% support offering a special enrollment period to allow uninsured Americans to sign up for affordable coverage through the #ACA in response to the #coronavirus pandemic. This includes 76% of independents and 59% of Republicans.
Protecting the #ACA is even more popular among seniors over the age of 65, with 61% saying it should not be struck down and just 19% supporting striking it down. These voters are especially concerned about the consequences of striking down the ACA. #DropTheLawsuit
78% of seniors have MAJOR concerns about eliminating protections for people with pre-existing conditions and about 20 million Americans losing their health insurance, and 70% have major concerns about allowing insurance companies to stop covering the costs of prescription drugs.
Overall, @realDonaldTrump’s actions on health care are unpopular with a majority of voters—52% disapprove of his job performance on health care, while just 39% approve. 52% of voters trust the Democratic Congress on the issue of health care, while 41% trust President Trump.
In contrast, 51% of voters trust former Vice President @JoeBiden more on the issue of health care, while only 42% say they trust @realDonaldTrump. In the presidential race, Biden is leading President Trump by 9 points (52-43).
