As a parent, I want my child’s education to be about creating relationships, building foundational skills and development into a well rounded human being who, as a high school graduate, can choose whatever profession or vocation speaks to them.

What this Bill serves to do is to allow parents to make a choice as early as Kindergarten about what career their child will have, with no ability for the child to meaningfully consent. Alberta isn’t “The Community” and we shouldn’t be acting as dystopian “Chief Elders”

Deciding the rest of a child’s life before they can decide for themselves. This move is not in the best interest of children, parents or educators and is meant to line the pockets of Conservative cohorts who have a vested interest in privatized education.

This is one of the most heinous misuses of power this government has enacted yet. Ask yourself- when over 90% of families choose public education in Alberta for their children- why are the @Alberta_UCP pushing charter/private schools so hard? Who is benefiting?

(If the 2nd post in this thread doesn’t make sense, it’s a reference to the book “The Giver” by Lois Lowry, which I borrowed from the library of my well funded public school when I was about 8 years old, where I definitely hadn’t been pushed into a vocational steam yet)
