I agree: US society lacks any sort of collectivist mindset, and practically has lost the entire concept of the social contract, with our hyperindividualism and backwards libertarianism. But it is the utter failure of the CDC, the feds and the states that let it get this bad!!!

Yes, of course DJT and the right-wing's science denialism that continues to make it worse. It's a lack of leadership combined with utter irresponsible behaviors. But the more we argue over wearing masks, the less attention we focus on holding government officials to account.
