Happy election day, Kentucky! My absentee ballot never registered as being received, despite me mailing it back weeks ago. So I'm off to Louisville's Expo Center not just to observe, but also to see if I can "go before the board" and make my case for voting in person.
FYI, the folks at Jefferson County Clerk's Office are super helpful, and at least one already sounds exhausted at 9:15 a.m.
Yes (sigh) I know how to use the online portal. I also know how to pick up the phone and call a person to double check their records if the portal is throwing different conflicting results, as mine was.
What I was advised to do by the county clerk's office is go to the Express Vote table at the Expo Center (near the V line) and say that I would like to go before the board and make the case for being issued a new ballot to replace the one they have a record of issuing. Let's go!
(but first, a meeting)
This could happen to a mail-in ballot in any given election — and I'm in favor of keeping the expanded, anyone can get one absentee mail ballot access after the pandemic is over — even if every single polling place was open today. Mail gets lost! Let's find out what happens now.
