I invest a lot of energy trying to recruit postdocs to my lab. I haven't received a SINGLE non-immigrant postdoc application in the past five years

I'm a proud immigrant to the US. I came here on a J1 almost 9 years ago, moved to an H1B, then became a permanent resident 2 years ago

I've experienced the anxiety of visa renewals first-hand and it's gut-wrenching to think how this is making my lab members on visas feel

I'm seeing a lot of mildly-gloating Tweets saying, "hey come to country X, it's great over here" - this minimizes the upheaval that people go through and the anxiety they feel right now...

... and NEWSFLASH... the US isn't the only country that's shutting down like this. Think Brexit, and I'm sure there are other examples

Finally. I still believe that the US is a wonderful place to innovate and I hope we can overcome this. THIS IMMIGRANT IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE.
