I do not accept the idea of “harsh” critiques. You should not get “torn apart” in a crit. Crits should not be “brutal” — crits should be honest and useful. If you walk out of a crit and need to cry — YOU did not do badly. The people giving you the crit did badly.
Any faculty who are “known” to be really harsh and make people cry are mostly concerned with power and ego, not with helping you become better. You might learn something, but that’s person’s primary concern is themselves.

If you often find yourself emotional/crying during/after critiques with different people, then you have to work on understanding that a crit of your work is not a crit of your value as a human being.
