There were a lot of beautiful statements and commitments made to school communities the last few weeks about antiracist work that should happen, but how serious are districts really taking it? Will it once again fall on the individual teachers to implement change?
Which barriers will be removed so that change can happen? Which practices are scrutinized and changed? Who is at the table discussing what needs to happen? How are students brought to the conversation? Which experts are guiding the work?
Because if we go back in the fall after all of those statements were made and nothing has changed then there is little reason for kids and families to trust us to take care of their children
And for some there already was little reason to trust us
So all this to ask; which structural changes are happening in your districts right now? Who is leading the work? What are the next steps beyond the statements? Because there needs to be next steps
