There now follows a story about how we are all so totally fucked, unless people stop assuming their idea of helpful is just that and probably needs a bit more thought.

My husband bought an E Bike a while back.

First off, some of you will already be asking... why?
Bikes are for pedalling, not for sitting back and letting electricity do the work!

That's not the point here. E-bikes are like a small petrol scooter, they are your shiny vehicle of the future, and they are a far better alternative to most forms of transport. There's 1 problem.
Just because you don't see a problem in something, doesn't mean there isn't one. Just because you think things work well, and that everybody is happy, does not take into account so much else that needs to be thought about.

HONESTLY ALL YOU PEOPLE NEED TO THINK MORE THAN YOU DO.
I'm quite tired of second guessing other people, and yet it happens, time and again.

The time, effort and money that could have been saved if they made it possible for remote firmware updates, but then (GASP) the bikes could be hackable.

Then give us a cable port ^^
They run on firmware, like a lot of the Internet of Things. That's great when it works. When it doesn't, you end up taking delivery of a bike shaped cardboard box from Parcelforce, into which your bike has to be shoved, in order to return it to the manufacturer.
He has to send his bike back to have a firmware update, or it won't work. We can't do it here. It can't be done at a dealer. The only way it works properly is being shoved in a box and being sent back to the people who made it.

This is utterly shit.
The future cannot be like this. You cannot build things like this. Nobody wins. The carbon footprint of moving this bike back and forward until it works. The effort required to co-ordinate it all. The man-hours. SERIOUSLY there has to be a better way, because this is not it.
Instead, there's a fucking huge cardboard box in the front room.

Green transport my arse.
