Investment is one of the biggest problems we have in NE tech. c.£75m invested in NE tech firms last year. When you consider 2/3rds of this came from one deal deal (Atom), there's much work to be done here. So what can we do? Long term we need to stimulate early-stage activity.1/2
Yet short term, we need the networks. Probably opens up more questions for a representative NE tech network/group (we don't have one; we should have one) but imagine if tech firms in the region knew there was someone in the capital/around the UK making connections on their behalf
To be clear this is re: product-based, high potential tech companies. Not needs of IT corporates/big biz or service-based creative businesses. Yes ambitious founders should seek investor connections but a problem endemic to the region surely justifies collective action? #UKtech
