1/ A Public Service Announcement Thread Please read on.

Over the last month it is very likely that you have seen controversy within various communities and areas of not only twitter, but wider social media and social life in general.....

2/ Just one among these are the countless victims of abuse coming forward from across all areas at the moment many of who's stories date back years having only recently felt able to come forward.
Unfortunately no community has been immune to this.......

3/ and the mental health and advocacy community has been hit hard, with one of its most well known figures currently being investigated for abuse of power and sexual abuse allegations, in the fall out of this it came to light that many members felt unable to speak out.....

4/ for fear of repercussion given the size of this individuals audience and his position of trust within the community, causing them to suffer in fear and silence often unable to even tell their friends within the community because of fear of not being believed....

5/ We all, as across communities need to do better, victims should never be scared into silence by the size of their abusers audience or influence, but especially in the mental health community where our members or platforms often include some incredibly vulnerable people...

6/ We should ensure that we are truly the safe space that we claim to and aspire to be:

And it is with that in mind that I would like to make the following statement following a pledge made to @CaraLisette and @_pariah among many others and I urge everyone to do the same......

I am trained to advocate and safeguard, that means I will do the best I can to advise you, but also to keep you safe if I am worried about your welfare, I am however not an expert, seek a second opinion, I am not a medical nor legal professional

I am safe to approach, all messages sent to me are kept anonymous unless I legitimately fear for your welfare in which case I may have to refer it to relevant services.

9/ I am impartial, if you come to me as a victim I will not judge you, I will support you, if you want to speak out you are safe to do so and you are not alone.

but in this time of uncertainty most crucially

10/ I am accountable. I urge anyone who I interact with to save my messages, and hold me to account, question me if you dont understand what Im saying, if (and I wont) I say or do anything inappropriate towards you or one of your friends, out me, lets make this community safe

@pjshaw192 Im sorry to tag you in this thread but I know your a reliable and trust worthy figure in our community, that I personally look up to, can I count on you to make the same statement and pledge and strive for a more safe community?
