Shall we alleviate #lockdown boredom with a L----O----N----G thread on #ScottishCup managers? Why not? This is advance warning to take cover/unfollow if for some inexplicable reason you're not totally gripped by the (occasionally less than) wonderful world of Scottish fitba.
Most successful #Aberdeen boss was one A Ferguson who won the trophy four times. Most matches has Dons' first two gaffers Jimmy Philip & Pat Travers equal with 58. Philip never got past the semis while Travers took them to their first (losing) final in 1937.
William Orr is the only #Airdrie boss to win (1924). David Martyn led them on 36 occasions, reaching one semi (1932). Steve Archibald has a 100% record - admittedly from just one match - they were disqualified in the next round (2001)
Lots of bosses with that kind of perfect record but to assess who has had the best record at any club I'm going to take a minimum of ten games in charge. By that measure Fergie is still stop at Pittodrie as is Orr at Airdrie.
Successful Albion Rovers bosses? Well, Simon Scott reached and lost the 1920 final (we all know who won, don't we?) while bottom of the league. Best record though is George Caldwell with a PPG of 1.8
Yet Caldwell's best was making the last sixteen and that just once. Cup format explains why he has such a good record - five wins, three draws, two defeats. Although there have been times when the cup daw has been all-in entry is usually a staggered process
'Big' clubs don't join till last 32 so if for example a 'wee' team loses to Celtic at that stage they could have as high as a 75% record for the season (& a guaranteed 50%) while a 'big' side going out to Rangers at the same stage would (if not in a replay)have zero
James Saunders, inter-war secretary/manager has most games at #AlloaAthletic with 32 never getting past the third round. Best record is Tom Hendrie with a PPG of 1.6429 from 14 games. He reached the last sixteen once (2005)
Jim Chapman led #AnnanAthletic sixteen times, has the best PPG - 1.625 with the last sixteen in 2016 his best
