When my dad was 11, Thatcher was education secretary. They wanted my dad to go to a faith school simply because he was Irish Catholic and refused him entry to a regular school. The regular school was on his street, Catholic school was 10 miles away and a bus ride. 1/
My dad didn't want to go there, my nan didn't want him to go there. So she said no. She was refused. Now, my nan was known for taking absolutely no shit. So first day of school, she sent him to the school she wanted him to go to. They sent him home. She did the same 2/
The next day. And the next. She was asked to stop and she said no. Eventually Thatcher got involved. Who told her to send him to the Catholic school. My nan told her to bugger off and carried on not doing that. Eventually the church got involved and threatened to 3/
Ex communicate her from the congregation. She still said no. This went on for months and months but eventually, after 7 months, Thatcher backed down and was forced to let my dad attend school. Somewhere in my dads attic he has the letter of Thatcher doing a U turn, kept 4/
In all its glory.

I'm not one for being all MUH ANCESTORS.

But I am seriously proud to be the granddaughter of the immigrant Irish woman who took on Thatcher and won. 😂 5/5
