Here is one more sociocultural observation I made about Nigerians but not so sure if it is indeed correct.
Northerners do not like verbal attacks. They view it so bad that you can see most of them feel the pain or react physically in response to verbal attacks.
This could be why 'blasphemy' exist in their penal code and is punishable by death.Dont subject a typical Northerner to verbal assault.Dont insult him,his culture, region or religion. He may just pull his dagger and stab you in response.
The Igbo do not care much about verbal attacks or negative remarks about them.Well, they may do but they don't consider it that much of an affront. They however find physical assault unforgivable and would react violently to it.
If you harm or kill one of them, you have done the worst thing in the world and they would never forgive that.

Sometimes you see two Igbo exchange verbal attacks for hours without resorting to a physical brawl.
Sometimes they bring chairs and sit down for hours to insult and engage in a shouting match but no blows would be exchanged.

They call it "iko onu" and it is permissible in their culture. You can see them getting back close together after such verbal exchanges.
Murder(ochu) however is outlawed in Igbo culture. It is a violation of the land and the worst crime ever in their beliefs. They would react violently, seek revenge and become suicidally chaotic.
This could explain why a Northerner will not view killing someone for blasphemy or whatever reasons as a crime whereas the Igbo see it as a mortal crime driven by hate.

On the other hand a Northerner or group of Northerners would kill someone today and try to explain the...
reasons for the killing or just say sorry for the killing. Could this be the reason why thousands can be killed in the North during the numerous crisis and it won't alter the sociocultural settings?
The Igbo however don't have room or seem to understand this unless the person was killed as a form of administering justice.

It is in their traditional penal codes to kill or drive away criminals. Blasphemy is not even a crime among the Igbo let alone being punishable by death
Do you understand what I am trying to say?Do you agree with this observation? What is the Yoruba perspective or that of other ethnic groups?
