honestly human rights are very much connected to animal rights imo in a sense that, there is this underlying belief that a lot of people hold that there are life forms “below” them, that they are supperior in some sense and those below them can be abused bc they are lesser than u
what we do to living beings in general bleeds into how we treat our fellow humans, i think it’s important to remember that all life has an inherent value & deserves respect, no human or animal or any life for that matter deserves to suffer unnecessarily
just addressing the human part and ignoring the horrid abuse we fling at non-human animals and the environment won’t solve the root problem that we’ve got going on, there is no “superior” life, it’s all just life, we are not above nature, we are a deeply intertwined part of it
i feel like when you speak up for non-human life and minorities at the same time, people take it as you comparing minorities to “lesser forms of life”, essentially insulting them but that is not what i’m trying to do, i’d like to pull non-human life UP, not drag minorities DOWN
we are so lost in this belief that we are the superior species and this world is made to serve us and we can do whatever the fuck we want to it because all non-human life BELONGS to us, they are our property to do whatever with and it really shouldn’t be like that
no life is “property” it’s a life, it applies to both humans & animals, fuck racism 100% but also fuck this inherent belief system of “fuck these living beings they are below me so i can abuse them all i want” bc that ain’t it man, we need to nurture more empathy in ourselves
i really hope i didn’t word this thread badly, i’m always scared to speak up about this as i’m not great with words at times but these are my personal spiritual beliefs, all life deserves respect, no matter how small, ugly or stupid you personally might percieve it as
