y’all think japan is this paradise of soft kawaii anime boys and girls who are soft spoken and innocent. i’m japanese living in japan, and i think it’s important to let people be aware (especially those wanting to move to 🌸😍 JAPAN 😍🌸) of some important issues 👀 *A THREAD*
Before I start, take this with a grain of salt. If I make generalized statements, take it as my own experience. With that said... *cracks knuckles*
1. There’s a famous Japanese saying “Being a man is difficult.” Why? “Men have long working hours” “Men need to make the moves to get women” “Men have more difficult jobs than women” SURPRISE, men made the rules and now they’re victimizing themselves. uWu 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 LMAO BORING 🥱
2. Japanese people will have the biggest fattest nerves to throw the most derogatory words at you THROUGH THE INTERNET. Classic keyboard warriors. “lol femboy” “you’re a shemale” But irl? LMAO 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 🥺👉🏻👈🏻 They will bow the fuck out of their heads at you
3. (adding to the above) Some of u might know the show Terrace House. Basically like a Japanese version of Big Brother. They bullied this girl TO DEATH on the internet. No, LITERALLY TO DEATH. She killed herself. Why did she get bullied? Literally this scene 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️
3. (cont.) Long story short: The girl’s a pro-wrestler. The man washed her allegedly really expensive costume in the laundry. The costume got ruined. She was mad and upset.

Japanese people: *bullies her death*

🧐🧐🤔🤔 Make it make sense
4. If you talk about lgbtq+ or feminism issues, they will always try to divert it to something about them.

“Don’t say shemale” 👉🏻 “Then don’t say straight”

“Women need jobs” 👉🏻 “but men do it better”
5. There’s NUMEROUS stories about rape and harrassment. If you’re a girl moving to japan, honestly just prepare to get sexually assaulted by middle aged men. Stalked to your station and even your front door.
5. (cont.) It’s such a big problem that there are “women only” cars in trains and camera shutter sounds of phones bought in Japan cannot be turned off even in silent mode. Why? Because rape and harrassment are so prevalent here.
5. (cont.) A woman was touched in the train, so she dragged the man out the train. She called the police and when they arrived, the woman was also charged for laying a finger on the man.

OKAY WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE GONNA DO IF HE STICKS HIS COCK UP HER VAGINA? 🤔🤔🤔🤔
6. If you study Japanese history with history books from other Asian countries, they are portrayed as villians who colonized and stole their lands. If you study Japanese history in Japan, they portray themselves as
7. Oh, you think white supremacists in America are bad with their “SPEAK ENGLISH IN AMERICA!!!!!!11!1!1!” bs?? LMAO, I’ve been told to “SPEAK JAPANESE BC WE’RE IN JAPAN” when i was speaking English with my friend on the train. 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
8. Oh, it ain’t just the old people. No ma’am. When I was eating out with my friends, a group of Japanese uni students thought we didn’t speak Japanese, so they were talking shit about us and said “I wanna hit their heads like SMACK SMACK SMACK” ... luv what?
9. Nature and global warming activists, I haven’t forgotten about you, don’t worry.
10. Hmmm, this one might just be a cultural thing and not necessarilly a bad thing, but there’s a word called “tatemae” in japanese which is basically a “fake self” they present to people.
10. (cont.) but good luck trying to guess what people really want to say bc they will always agree with you to your face and will always beat around the bush but behind your back, they’ll be like
11. My personal favorite. If u raise awareness about ANY ISSUE, a lot of them will say “Why are u acting so righteous, high, and mighty?” 🤦🏻‍♂️ That’s why there are little activists in Japan. These bitches will see ALL FORMS OF ACTIVISM AS PERFORMATIVE and will ignore the real issue
12. You wanna talk government? Here’s some tea about the governor of Tokyo, Koike. YES, you read that right. “ULTRANATIONALIST RIGHT-WING” cr: @/ko_archives on ig
13. Any negative trait will be compared to “being a woman.” If you work slow? “Why do you work like a woman?” If you’re emotional “Why are you crying like a girl?” If someone’s sensitive, “lol he’s like a woman” And it’s SO normal here. It’s not okay.
14. Good luck at drinking parties with your “superiors” at work. They will force feed you alcohol until you black out. I’ve seen women get forced drunk and get taken advantage of.
15. JAPAN IS SOOO SCARED OF CHANGE. WITH ANYTHING. On my “don’t say shemale” video, people are saying “It’s Japanese culture to say shemale. Don’t change our culture just because you’re offended” bitch if i tell u i went BATSHIT CRAZY
ok we’ve made it to # 15, I might keep going but REMINDER: I don’t HATE Japan. In fact, I really like living here. Every country has their bs. But I just want to educate people (again, especially the ones wanting to move to japan) that Japan isn’t the ALL-PERFECT COUNTRY U KNOW
while I’m here, if u guys have any questions, u can dm me on my ig @worldofxtra. I also have a tiktok with the same @ ❤️ I’m a drag performer and artist from Tokyo! ❤️🏳️‍🌈
16. In Japanese “mental health” is shortened to “men-hera” and it literally means “crazy” instead of... mental health. It’s been twisted throughout history bc it’s a shame to have ANY sort of mental illness. It is said that it’s better to kill yourself than be mentally ill.
17. (Adding to the above) you CAN’T get a visa to Japan (student visa, working visa, etc) if you state that you have a mental illness. If you talk about depression, anxiety, etc. on your visa application essay, you are likely to get denied.
18. OH HOW COULD I FORGET. THIS ONE’S A GOOD ONE. So under the law, “sex with a minor is illegal” BUT “minor” in Japan is defined as children under 12 years old 😳🤔 (legal age is 20 years old) and the ONLY sexual act outlawed is INTERCOURSE.
18. (cont.) so if a pedophile takes sexual pictures of children, IT. IS. NOT. PUNISHABLE. BY. LAW.

make. that. make. sense.

“Child porn is BANNED RIGHT?”

... only if it shows the child’s genitalia. Otherwise, it’s permissible...

yes, it’s easy to find child porn in japan
19. There’s a VERY common Japanese saying “shou ga nai” used by women here. It means “It can not be helped” or “We can’t do anything about it” Women are raised to believe they are inferior at ALL situations. Women get raped, abused, harrased, but all they can say is “shou ga nai”
20. Adding this 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻( @grace_howl8 )
21. This is very true. If you’re Japanese mixed with Asian blood, you’re just another “gaijin,” translates to “outsider.” If you’re white, you’re GOD😍! Additional points for blue eyes. Plus 3 points for green eyes! Plus 10 points if you’re blonde. ( @joey2dchan )
