Today we announce DecodeME, the world’s largest genetic study into #ME funded by @The_MRC & @NIHRresearch. This project has evolved into a fantastic partnership between people with ME, their carers, charities and academics. @mrc_hgu @EdinburghUni @MRC_IGMM 1/5
Around 250,000 people in the UK live with #ME (sometimes called chronic fatigue syndrome, CFS). Most never recover fully; a quarter are bed- or house-bound. ME/CFS costs the UK about £3.3bn every year. Yet we know near-to-nothing about its causes. 2/5
Arm-in-arm with people with ME and charities, we need to recruit 20,000 participants - all clinically diagnosed with ME/CFS – using an on-line questionnaire developed by @mecfsbiobank. Then we’ll use DNA from their spit samples – posted via the regular mail – for a GWAS. 3/5
For more information about GWAS see: https://mecfsresearchreview.me/2019/06/26/researchers-propose-deep-trawl-of-dna-to-help-uncover-the-causes-of-me-cfs/.">https://mecfsresearchreview.me/2019/06/2... 4/5
Diagnosed with ME? Want to register as a potential participant? Then do visit: http://www.decodeME.org.uk"> http://www.decodeME.org.uk  (See also the site’s FAQ section.) The study will launch officially early in 2021. 5/5
