So I made a movie. A post-apocalyptic political thriller called LECTION. The plot is simple. The world ended, then they had an election. We made this little movie for $20,000 on weekends in rural South Carolina in late 2019. It was ... difficult. I& #39;d like to talk about my cast.
Specifically, I& #39;d like to talk about one actor. Mike Amason, who goes by @MusicalDuffer. First, some context. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1271267118672162817">https://twitter.com/daxe/stat...
A little more context, this time about our special effects. A.k.a., that time we strapped corn syrup to a ham, dressed it in a green shirt and stabbed the shit out of it. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1271924435436568577">https://twitter.com/daxe/stat...
I discuss the casting process in this thread. When it came to Mike, there was no casting process. Mike& #39;s been in every movie I& #39;ve made. And he& #39;ll be in every movie I make in the future, until he can& #39;t stand it any more. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1272346020308008963">https://twitter.com/daxe/stat...
Mike is a colorful figure in Columbia, South Carolina. He& #39;s an actor, musician, ne& #39;er-do-well. He& #39;s a carpenter and seamster. Most of all, he& #39;s a storyteller. Knows everyone. Remembers everything. Talks non-stop. Some of my favorite memories are riding in his truck, listening.
I met Mike in 2016, after we cast him in THE THETA GIRL, which I wrote and produced. He killed it as a crazed purveyor of a cosmic, mind-altering drug. Pitch-perfect mix of weird, playful and dangerous. And he died like a champ from a shotgun blast. This would become a trend.
