So I made a movie. A post-apocalyptic political thriller called LECTION. The plot is simple. The world ended, then they had an election. We made this little movie for $20,000 on weekends in rural South Carolina in late 2019. It was ... difficult. I'd like to talk about my cast.
Specifically, I'd like to talk about one actor. Mike Amason, who goes by @MusicalDuffer. First, some context. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1271267118672162817
A little more context, this time about our special effects. A.k.a., that time we strapped corn syrup to a ham, dressed it in a green shirt and stabbed the shit out of it. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1271924435436568577
I discuss the casting process in this thread. When it came to Mike, there was no casting process. Mike's been in every movie I've made. And he'll be in every movie I make in the future, until he can't stand it any more. https://twitter.com/daxe/status/1272346020308008963
Mike is a colorful figure in Columbia, South Carolina. He's an actor, musician, ne'er-do-well. He's a carpenter and seamster. Most of all, he's a storyteller. Knows everyone. Remembers everything. Talks non-stop. Some of my favorite memories are riding in his truck, listening.
I met Mike in 2016, after we cast him in THE THETA GIRL, which I wrote and produced. He killed it as a crazed purveyor of a cosmic, mind-altering drug. Pitch-perfect mix of weird, playful and dangerous. And he died like a champ from a shotgun blast. This would become a trend.
