ATTN: dozens of Black and racialized families need your help. They are at risk of being unhoused in the middle of a global pandemic because @Habitat_org is reneging on a promise they made -- trying to claw themselves out of debt on the backs of more than 50 low income families
These families had an agreement with Edmonton's Habitat for Humanity wherein they helped build their own homes in exchange for an interest-free mortgage. This was originally a blessing, an incredible opportunity for families who may not have otherwise had access to home ownership
@Habitat_org Edmonton stumbled into financial trouble & turned on these low income families, telling them they have to choose: either agree to a new mortgage with interest rates they cannot afford, or they will be evicted. This is unacceptable.
CALL TO ACTION: contact @Habitat_org Edmonton's board of directors and their main office to demand they honour their agreement with these families. Tell @Habitat_org not to balance their books on the backs of low-income families. #BlackLivesMatter

also: help @place_carter cover their legal fees. I know their lawyer personally. He cares deeply, works hard and will do this work for free, but social justice lawyering is more sustainable if he doesn't have to. https://www.gofundme.com/f/habitat-for-humanity-partner-families-legal-fees?utm_source=customer&utm_
