Plagiarism In Research. It’s so easy to plagiarize without you being aware & doing so has harsh consequences. Plagiarism is basically stealing someone else’s work and using it as your own 😳👎🏾👎🏾 So how do you avoid plagiarism? A short thread #AcademicTwitter #past3amsquad
1. It’s always better to paraphrase than quote. But even with paraphrasing, you still need to cite the source. Paraphrasing is not just rearranging a sentence. It is using your own words to describe another person’s work without changing the original content.
2. Keep track of all the sources you use as you write. You can use any reference citation system of your choice for this such as EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager etc. You can also add sources manually if you prefer 😳
3. If you use something from the internet, you must also provide the URL where you found it as well as the date you accessed it.
4. It helps to train yourself to think independently as you write. That will enable you to critically evaluate anyone’s work and jot down your thoughts on the issue. It will also prevent you from “copying and pasting” other people’s work.
5. Lastly, make use of plagiarism detection tools available to you or your institution. Whether it’s Turnitin (most popular for SA’n institutions) or any other realible plagiarism checker of your choice. Let’s write 😎😎
