There is a worrying rise in hatred directed at expats returning to NZ & these kind of comments are just wrong

The usual rhetoric seems to be that all expats “buggered off to greener pastures” & have spent the pandemic drinking Aperols in Italy or partying in Mykonos

Those insisting people are only returning to their home countries now are only doing so because the fun stopped are simply not looking at the bigger picture.

People are losing their jobs and livelihoods and sometimes (like Dubai) your residency visa is tied to you having a job.

Jobs are being lost today and yesterday and last week, requiring people to return home.

Everyone didn’t conveniently lose their jobs the day the borders were shut so they could get all their affairs in order and leave on a plane in a timely fashion on a timeline that suits

I’m only able to speak for myself here but I left NZ in search of career opportunities and I’ll definitely be coming home one day, to then contribute to the NZ economy too, as I did for most of my working life prior. And I’d hate to be spurned by my own people
