Setting aside the fact that I& #39;m more productive and happier at work because of my international colleagues, banning these visas is more likely to hurt the economy than help it, and I& #39;m gonna rant about it in the best way I know how (with data) https://twitter.com/NPR/status/1275185673453080578">https://twitter.com/NPR/statu...
Americans who work in H-1B-type fields have unemployment rates that are so much lower than other fields that it suggests the US has a demand for more workers, not a demand for more jobs, both now ( https://nfap.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/Analysis-of-Employment-Data-for-Computer-Occupations.NFAP-Policy-Brief.May-2020.pdf)">https://nfap.com/wp-conten... and not during a pandemic ( http://www.newamericaneconomy.org/sites/all/themes/pnae/stem-report.pdf)">https://www.newamericaneconomy.org/sites/all...
Importantly, hiring H1/H2 visa-holders creates more jobs for US natives, by increasing productive output (e.g. producing more patents), allowing them to hire more people, and by increasing the productivity of their US-born peers https://www.aei.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/-immigration-and-american-jobs_144002688962.pdf">https://www.aei.org/wp-conten...
I should add: the contributions of our international colleagues is more than economic and scientific. These are our friends, family, and community members. Here I just aimed to dismantle the supposed justification of this policy. We already know by now: the cruelty is the point.
