Do Rituals have power, what purpose do they serve?

Rituals motivate and move us. Through rituals we build families and community, we make transitions and mark important events in our lives, we express ourselves in joy and sorrow, most importantly, we create and sustain identity.
But Ritual in Pagan faith or Christianity serve a different purpose than one make think. They integrate the rational and the irrational mind, and unite the hemispheres and sometimes they just help to quiet the over processing repetitive thought cycle.
So that we can be in the body and experience our reality in the body.
There is the mind's knowledge of a subject through contemplation and then there is the experiential realm of life where wisdom of the craft is gained by doing. Creations/Goals start as concepts in the mind but to materialize actions must follow thoughts.
In religious rituals we fuse both the world as lived, and the world as imagined under the agency of a single set of symbolic forms or practices.
By enacting the symbolic system, ritual integrates two irreducible aspects of symbolism, the conceptual worldwide view of the rational mind and the dispositional cultural ethos displayed by the acting body.
Think about teaching a child how to ride a bike

The rational spectrum alone will simply not provide you all the necessary knowledge you need. We can inform our children that speed affects ability with the Newtonian models of pure physics ...
However children will not gain the knowledge inherent and embodied in a concrete learning situation unless they are willing to engage themselves in the total situation of experience.
Unlike habits which are often mindless, rituals are generally mindful – a series of actions carried out for a specific purpose. Rituals form structure and hierarchy and helped us define our place in the world.
