What Dlamini says she experienced at the hands of Keita is atrocious. Liverpool needs to immediately cut him & remove him from the team, a $62 million dollar loss after a league shutdown & global economic collapse they will nearly surely never take. 1/6
Unfortunately, nothing about the team has changed. They never have and never would have backed a survivor, let alone at a massive economic loss, let alone in the financial context the club find themselves in. So where do red fans & fans of the sport in general go from here? 2/6
It's a question worth asking. And it's one we feel passionately about. One that, in part, drove us to create this collective and fight for a space for women & queer people in sports. The fight now only gets harder, and more explicit. 3/6
Soccer is about communities of fans. Teams exist despite rich owners who wouldn't do the right thing if it cost them a single penny extra, not because of them. And it can't be left to the hordes of crave bigots who'd love to see their team win at any cost. 4/6
As a result, it is up to us, those who believe in a better, more inclusive world, to demand and build the culture we dream of. To make it clear that it is unacceptable to ignore a black woman's pursuit of justice and demand they respect her. 5/6
A team is the community. It's not the players who change. It's not the owner's who change. It's not the staff who change. It's not the building that once in a very long while change. It's us, and we can define what is and isn't acceptable. And we can't let Dlamini walk along. 6/6
The whole world has been in revolt for weeks over the way the police treat Black people & men are falling over themselves to say we have to wait for those same police, famous for respectfully handling sexual assault, who already said they don’t care, to make their judgement. 7/6
Yeah man the proper authorities, noted for their fair treatment of sexual assault, women, and Black people, good point 🤡
