If you have been learning recently about police abolition & feel like it's something you stand behind

AND

you are also calling for the arrest and conviction of (terrible, murderous) police

that is a contradiction you need to sit with and stew over.

that's a tension no one can resolve for you. you have to sit, stew, read, talk to people, repeat, and figure out how you feel. but, recognize that "abolish police" and "arrest the cops" are not just slogans. there's a politics behind them & you have to figure out where you stand.

sometimes you think you believe something. then terrible situation arises & you automatically jump back to the carceral solution. arrest, prison,punishment. and that makes sense, because that's the air we breathe. but it's worth pausing to ask yourself what you really believe.
