I’m feeling uneasy with this picture. Australia is not a posh bunch of people sipping tea in their scrubs & stethoscopes. Reframing Australia Day as a day of thanks to clinicians is distration from the real issue at heart. Also, we’re not heroes.

Australia runs on good coffee. We sit in the bush among the gum trees. We don’t sip tea. That just feels British. Also, the stuff on the wall just screams colonialism to me.

The migrants are the ones cleaning our hospitals, caring for our kids and running public transport...
The cleaners, security guards, IT workers, ED clerks, fever clinic staff, lab scientists, public health officials, teachers, child care workers, etc, these are the heroes.

We’ve had such a small number of covid cases in Australia. Doctors are not heroes. Please.
Let me be very honest: that picture just exudes exclusivity and privilege. Perhaps I see a very different kind of Australia.

These are personal opinions, not those of anyone or any organisation I may be associated with.
I would love to build a different Australia that is more inclusive and more colourful.

How do we do that, friends?
