You might have heard that an upcoming #Pathfinder2E Adventure Path has you playing a cops. Erik has posted about that here. I’ll add a few thoughts of my own, but please read that first. https://paizo.com/community/blog/v5748dyo6sh9r?Agents-of-Edgewatch-Update
First off, I do suggest looking at the Humble Fight for Racial Justice Bundle as mentioned in the article. All that money goes to charity, and there’s a choose where your money goes option at checkout. https://www.humblebundle.com/fight-for-racial-justice-bundle?hmb_source=humble_home&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=mosaic_section_1_layout_index_1_layout_type_twos_tile_index_1_c_fightforjustice_bundle
You’ve read the product hasn’t been canceled, but some tools in the Player’s Guide let you remove the element of being on the police force. If you’re interested in the plot but not cops, the Guide is free, so you can look when it comes out to see if that assuages your concerns.
It might not, or you might already have decided you want nothing to do with the AP regardless. I understand that completely. I’d be pretty reticent to play it, personally.
You’ll see me listed as Design Lead in the book. That means I was the member of the Design team assigned to the book to make sure the rules were following our standards. Unfortunately, I didn’t get much of a chance to assess the other contents of the book due to our schedule.
I trust the developers and other team members to do the best they can with this admittedly questionable concept, but I really only had time to review a portion of the stat blocks and player rules.
That said, I was in some early meetings on the book. The idea of whether we should be doing this theme was raised early on, as Erik notes here. I had misgivings about doing this theme, and failed to be as strident about that as I should have.
So I’d like to personally apologize as well. To anyone who feels betrayed or frustrated, I’m sorry.
Pathfinder is a game in which fictional violence in a fantasy world plays a major part. We try to avoid getting too close to real-world violence most of the time, but that didn’t happen here.
As with any game where violence is a major part, please consider what that can mean at your game table too. And if all the games you play are violent, please branch out! Balance your diet.
