There are so many inconsistencies or lazy decisions here.
• Calendar, Notes, and Reminders should have similar texture and lighting qualities.
• Text Edit has an external tool, but Pages doesn’t.

• App Store is a glyph with a shadow, a la FaceTime and Messages, but Podcasts, Music, News, and Books are inset shapes.
• Automator is an icon where the main object is 3D and the rounded square functions only as a “space” for it.
• Stocks is over-shaded.

• Time Machine is radially shaded, but everything else is linearly shaded.
• Perspective of GarageBand’s guitar is too severe compared to other 3D objects.
• iWork apps’ relationships of their objects and backgrounds are inconsistent in metaphor.
• iMovie is lazily executed.

It’d be one thing if these were apps from different companies. But they don’t look like apps that come from the same company. Some effects are subtle, while others are too strong (shadows).

These could be a lot better. These should be a lot better.
