On thursday Colombia will find out if they will host the 2023 Women's World Cup

Japan and Brazil have both withdrawn their applications so that the final decision will be between Colombia and Australia / New Zealand

A FIFA report ranked the Oceania bid as stronger in most areas https://twitter.com/CONMEBOL/status/1275157244275982346
The Oceania bid is stronger in terms of infrastructure, stadiums, media facilities and authorities commitment to support women’s football.

If Colombia are chosen it will be as a reflection of the countries potential in the sport & a desire to develop the game in South America.
Colombia would be able to host a good World Cup but it would require more work and a few compromises

Despite FIFA claims, terrorism and security should be minor concerns

The conduct of Colombian football authorities has not been mentioned in reports but has been appallingly bad
On one hand, I would love to see it happen and I know it would be really well attended, giving a huge boost to women’s football in South America.

Despite this I fully understand those who argue the authorities cannot be trusted and do not deserve this great opportunity.
Colombians have embraced women’s football & it has huge potential for growth.

Attendances have been impressive & despite everything authorities have done or failed to do it has really taken off over the years.

I wish I could enthusiastically support this without the caveats.
