I'm from Alabama. I've driving by Talladega more times than I can remember and it was a sea of Confederate flags and RV campers.
It never occurred to me to even imagine the possibility that one day NASCAR would ban the battle flag.
Or that a NASCAR car would bear an explicitly anti-racist decals like #BlackLivesMatter .
Or that after being threatened with a lynching, the entirety of NASCAR would join in a public demonstration on the track of Talladega to show support to the one Black driver who was targeted for daring to claim his humanity.
If you’re not from the South, I’m not sure you get the enormity of what Bubba Wallace and the #blacklivesmatter movement—started by three Black women who identify as queer—has changed.

It is holy and amazing and unbelievable in all the best ways.
