ok heres me ranting about nagito because im tired of him being misunderstood and boiled down to "crazy hope man". he is so much more than that. this is just my interpretation! im just gonna word vomit so im sorry if i say something that isn't canon or miss details https://twitter.com/KOK1CH1/status/1275158807996297216
right first let's start off with why he admires hope and believes it to be "an absolute good". this is directly related to his talent. his talent works by giving him bad luck and good luck. if he experiences something unlucky something equally lucky will happen and vice versa
this has caused him a lot of pain/trauma because everytime he gets close to someone hes afraid that something bad will happen. and he blames himself for it. now. his admiration of hope is a coping mechanism. he needs something to believe in. something that's an absolute good.
something his talent (that he blames himself for) can't ruin.

heres a quote from the wiki: . 'He believes there are constant clashes between two or more hopes, and that "strong hope" will devour "weak hope" (adoringly, he calls this process "poetry in motion"). '
"To him, ordinary untalented people, despair, and weak hope are just stepladders for creating stronger hope, and he considers these things necessary, while simultaneously having aversion to them."

this is why he admires hope so much. because anything, even despair, can be used +
to create more hope. so no matter what happens hope is a constant. unlike the constant stream of bad luck/good luck he experiences.

now onto how he views the ultimates vs himself
wiki: "Nagito strongly associates hope with talent and talent with worth."

he believes the ultimates are chosen at birth and have great potential for hope. however he doesn't think of his own talent in the same way. in fact he doesn't even think of it as a real talent.
he thinks the ultimates can be embodiments of hope and that is why he admires them so much. what he really wants is to help create a hope that can overcome any despair.

but as i said before. he associates talent with worth and since he doesn't view his luck as a true talent...
he thinks he's literally worth less than the other ultimates. that, as well as trauma, is where his self-deprecating nature comes from. he's nothing compared to the Real Ultimates.

from here on there will be spoilers for sdr2.
