Senior Administration Official says President Trump will sign an executive order “pausing” visas for foreign workers in a wide range of occupations, will impact more than 500,000 people between now and Dec. 31.
This is designed to create “an America first recovery starting with Americans,” and will affect categories of foreign workers ranging from software engineers to au pairs, the SAO says.
Impacted categories include H1B, H4, H2B visas as well as J and L visas, the official says. Food industry workers will be excluded from this.
I asked if the White House has briefed business groups or the Chamber of Commerce on how their workforces will be impacted. “They are learning about this along with everybody else,” the senior administration official said.
We don’t have anything in writing yet, and we don’t have the text of this executive order either, so we are standing by to learn more.
