The word culty gets thrown around pretty liberally in tech, and most companies don't deserve the label.

@RoamResearch is the rare one that does.

With their recently released packaging model, @Conaw and team are doubling down on their culty positioning.
In the face of Notion's aggressive Freemium strategy, Roam went the other way - offering a 14-day free trial.

This is wild considering how little Roam offers in terms of onboarding.

The trial gives users 14 days to dive into the community or keep it moving...
If users do decide to upgrade to paid, they can choose Professional or Believer.

At $15/mo, Professional is ~4x Notion's Personal Pro plan, and ~2x Evernote's Premium plan.

This weeds out users making their decision on cost, ensuring Roam only brings on serious users.
Most companies differentiate plans with features or usage.

Not Roam! The Professional plan includes access to all core Roam functionality.

Instead, Roam differentiated the Believer plan by giving the #roamcult what they want, proximity.
For $500, Believers get to join the #roamcult inner-circle.

They get first look at new features...
Time with @conaw and team...
And support before anyone else.
I love this packaging strategy because it perfectly aligns with the @RoamResearch personality.

While competitors may post more impressive acquisition volume, Roam's retention will flourish on the strength of their passionate community.
