in regards to that madison girl, i think it’s important to note that she IS native. just because someone is problematic and goes about being native in an inappropriate and harmful way doesn’t make them a pretendian. real, connected natives can do shitty stuff and be problematic.
some of y’all want to believe the generalization that as natives we are all very socially aware and infallible, when that is not the case at all. natives can be racist, and even more so anti-native as well while still being native.
it rubs me the wrong way that any time a native does something wrong and harmful everybody’s instinct is “well they must be a pretendian or distant reconnecting.” that’s the case a lot of the time on twitter but there’s a lot of questionable people who are very connected...
i can name like 5 people off the top of my head on here who consider themselves all sacred and traditional and have the community connections to prove it but they’re super questionable in their intentions with parading those affiliations
natives can grow up with native family members, involved in their community, and still be anti-native. you can be violent towards yourself and your own people while still being a part of those people. we see this across all cultures, natives are not excused.
call out madison for appropriating other tribes cultures, and for spreading misleading, harmful information about other tribes. call her out for being manipulative, rude, list goes on and on. but don’t call her a pretendian because she’s a real native who’s really problematic.
anyways, i’m not subtweeting anyone or calling out anyone in particular. i saw like 50 people with this take lmao. essentially my whole timeline was saying she wasn’t a real native. please just keep this in mind next time we see natives with a following acting up🥴
