1/ Two weeks ago during the so-called *music industry blackout* when the industry felt like engaging with their own systemic racism for a day, a Pitchfork editor replied to an unrelated email looking to start a dialogue about an unfair lack of coverage of our black artists...
2/ which I tweeted about earlier that day.

However, they seemed more interested in making excuses than listening and quickly told me they didn't have energy for the dialogue they invited.
3/ Before going on, I want to make it extremely clear I am not talking about review scores or positive vs. negative reviews.

I have never, and I mean never, questioned the subjective nature of someone's taste in music.
4/ However I will always call into question the biased role power dynamics play in influencing culture.

And the truth is that the only thing reflected in Pitchfork reviews is the power dynamics of the music industry.
5/ Its why in place of reviewing so many other records over the last month (and years), they have chosen b-side collections, cover song collections, Liam Gallagher unplugged albums, and more.
6/ Like with all systemic inequality, they will tell you they are not factoring in race, sexuality, gender, or anything else in their decisions other than the music.
7/ But when the records that get reviewed reflect only industry power, you advance the systemic inequality present throughout the entire industry.
