I've always believed in our power and potential to create a better world for one another, to be and do better. Mainly because that's the environment I was raised in, it was the example that I saw being set around me.
I was tweeting last night about the men who raised me and how grateful I was for their love and care. Some of you know, others don't but in April my Uncle Allen Dale Ahdokobo was diagnosed with Covid-19, my aunt Susan, his wife, fell ill not longer after.
They were both ventilated and in medically induced comas. My aunt was extubated on day 37, she tested negative and and is home now. My Uncle was progressing slower but seemed to be recovering. This morning, after battling Covid-19 for 65 days, he passed away.
My Uncle Dale was a great man, he was kind, funny and the biggest Star Trekkie I've ever known. He was a husband, a father to 3 equally amazing men. He was an uncle and grandpa. I ask that you uplift my aunt, his sons and grandbabies in prayer and healing.
I also ask that you take time to reflect on what's important in this world. Kindness, love and respect for another. Wash your hands, wear a mask and help prevent other families from knowing this pain and devastation because it hurts.
I am going to be taking a break because I am just so angry and overwhelmed with the injustice, with the ugliness, cruelty, and pain that is all around us. So much hurt and I just need to be.
My Uncle and Aunt used to sing this song and it hurts it's something I'll never hear again.
