COMING FROM SOMEONE THAT WORKS IN CHILD CARE- a misconception when it comes to dealing with infants and toddlers is talking to them in a certain tone of voice/ hovering over them constantly. It’s false behavior. You should talk to children in normal tones/let them be independent https://twitter.com/maialanai/status/1274848918476664836
by this I mean, you don’t have to cheekily smile around children, stare at them, tell them not to do things constantly...you just observe, make conversation and be there enough to protect them from danger obviously while letting them see the world for themselves.
It hinders a toddlers development when you keep them from doing certain things at teachable ages and talk to them like they’re actually small or “less”. Yes they may be cute or small!!! But, it doesn’t define their capability and intelligence!!!
Ik I made this thread about talking but it generally does apply to the original tweet. Teaching a 6 month old baby that can walk how to swim should be an activity more often!!! If you treat a baby like it’s precious, can’t walk etc. it’s behavior will conform to that lifestyle.
Pretty equivalent to a three year old crying for their binky each time they’re told not to do something or “gets in trouble”. A three year old should not resort to an infants tool for comfort. A way to solve that is teaching babies how to be WITHOUT one at an earlier age!!
