So who knows about the black magic capital of India. The one that even Mughals feared. Offcourse calls for a thread.
Mayong .
Mayong is a small village in the Morigaon district of Assam, India, on the bank of the Brahmaputra River.
Legend has it that Ghatotkacha ( in the illustration) took part in the battle of Mahabharata after attaining different magical powers from Mayong. Villagers believe that immortal saints and witches take shelter in the jungles of the village and practice black magic
It is said that during 1330s, Muhammad Shah’s 100,000 horsemen disappeared near Mayong due to black magic and witchcraft and not a single trace was left behind. In 1667, Auragzeb sent his general Raja Ram Singh to defeat Ahoms ( the rulers of Brahputra valley). Mayong had such
reputation of fearful black magic that Raja Ram took Guru Teg bahadhur with him . However although Guru Teg Bahadhur introduced Sikhism in assam , he could save Raja Ram from defeat. There were many stories of war 1200-1300s in the Ahom kingdom where the entire
armies of opposition disappeared without trace .
Most village homes have ancient manuscripts that are that have spells and details of black magic that have been passed on. Many villagers have even destroyed them in order to prevent them from falling in wrong hands. Many of these
manuscripts have rituals detailing human sacrifice
( Narbali) for goddess Kali to acquire powers. Recent archaeological excavations have found swords that were used to kill humans centuries ago.
Bez ( witch doctors) use copper plates to treat illness.
They place the plate on the injury, chant a few mantras and wait for it to ‘eat away’ all the pain. In case a person is suffering from severe pain, the plate would then overheat and smash onto the ground . The witch doctors also use their magic to locate a lost property. They
places a flower inside a metal bowl .With magic, the bowl starts moving on its own on the ground, all the way to the place where the lost item is kept.
Villagers claim that the best of Bex have kept ghosts at their command to get the desired results.
The officials at Guwahati university have claimed that there have been instances at remote area of Garo hills where human have been transformed into beasts and also into goats by the Bez. There is also a Central museum that houses artifacts related to black magic ( Pic attched)
