Can I have a small moment of reflection? Our family took over Douglas Transport 1st March, first time owning our own business.
3 weeks later, lockdown happened and we had to stop working. June is our first full month of working. This is what& #39;s happened... (cont)

1. 90% of our business comes from word of mouth
2. Helped out several ppl in dire circumstances - we& #39;re known for making a plan
3. Moved hospital beds for Groote Schuur just before lockdown
4. Managed to shift so most could move before lockdown hit, only a couple had to wait

5. Kept our crew fully paid for the entire lockdown period even tho there was no work
6. Hit the ground running again mid-May
7. June& #39;s our first full month since we started! And our turnover this month is the highest in 2 years (the records that we have access to)

8. From June, our crew gets an increase on their daily wage, which was only planned for later in the year when we were more sure of things
9. Profit is still teeny, and not enough to support the family, but it means my parents don& #39;t need to use as much of their savings to live

10. Most of our customers seem to be old people with pianos :) They are always so impressed with the professionalism & expertise of our crew: they& #39;re not just muscle moving stuff around - they KNOW what they& #39;re doing and they WILL make it fit

11. Formalised the crew& #39;s working situation so they get proper paid leave, sick leave & family responsibility leave - something that wasn& #39;t necessarily the case before us.
12. I am super proud of us, my dad especially for taking it all on, despite his nerves. Customers love him. Crew loves him. He turned 66 last week and he changed his life overnight.
13. All of this in the middle of a pandemic
I think we deserve a chocolate.
