Doctors at UTSW say hospitalizations in North Texas due to COVID-19 are trending upward at an alarming rate and have jumped up 24% in a week. Data is as of 6/19 (latest available) & system-wide, not just UTSW, pulled from data from Tarrant, Collin, Denton & Dallas Co. @FOX4
Of note: hospitals are seeing younger patients now in June compared to March around when coronavirus started appearing in North Texas. Seeing a sharp jump in hospital patients ages 21-40. 50% of hospitalizations are under 50, 30% critical care under 50. @FOX4
UTSW doctors say they saw jump in cases in weeks after Mother's Day/Easter/Memorial Day weekend. Curves flattened out after Mother's Day/Easter, but haven't yet from MDW cases. Doctors concerned w/ July 4 coming up before MDW curve flattens, could see exponential increase @FOX4
Also of note: I asked about large gatherings like recent protests/graduations. Doctors say in general, it takes about 14 days to see the full impact of certain time periods and they're still looking at the data - cannot definitively say recent increase is due to that @FOX4
