Jesus did not come to help you feel great about loving your country
Jesus did not come to make you feel comfortable about centering your self-interest
Jesus did not come to co-sign the opinions you already held
Jesus came to set the captive free, not to ask the jailer what the captive did that got him there
Jesus came to heal the sick, not to ask if they had insurance
this isn't an esoteric reading of Jesus of Nazareth. We know Him by his works, which He tells us is a good way to know a person
even Holy Communion, scripturally, is what? Sharing your food. Sharing your wine. Knowing God in the breaking of the bread. Even sharing it with the very dude who you KNOW, as a matter of prophetic fact, is about to rat you out
that's the Jesus level, it's pretty hard to even contemplate without finding yourself very challenged by its extremity
so when people tell you Jesus wasn't a socialist
I don't know what Jesus they're looking at, but the One we know from the book
I'm pretty sure socialism is about ~halfway~ to the kind of radical world He encouraged us to dream /fin
