Women who podcast receive a LOT of criticism about their voices. Most of this criticism comes from men. There are historic reasons for this, these reasons do not make it okay. 1/
Although @BFWorldPodcast receives way more positive reviews that negative ones, the criticism of my voice can be tough. I can’t change how I speak and I naturally speak with a lot of inflection, especially when I get excited and I get excited when I talk about Early America. 2/
Although there were several 5-star reviews last week, one came in that again criticized my voice. Believe it or not, this is a “nice” comment compared to what people have said and say. 3/
Still, I’m going to keep podcasting. I have a voice and @BFWorldPodcast reaches more listeners in a day than most than most podcasters reach in a month. History is important and the mission needs to be seen through. 4/
I share this to be helpful. If you are a woman who works in public spaces & gets unhelpfully criticized, you aren’t alone. Know that your voice is important & you should continue sharing it. You won’t please everyone, but you will find & speak to the people you need to reach. 5/
