Second, what is to be done with his judgments and books?

Obviously, from now on everyone will look for an authority other than Heydon J, but sometimes that isn't possible. And he wasn't just a political appointment, he was a serious and scholarly judge.

Third, what do you do with his books? Even in England, everyone uses Meagher, Gummow and Lehane on Equity. He just published an idiosyncratic book on contract law. His is the leading work on evidence in Australia.

Don't cite them? Don't give to students?

Fourth, perhaps this shows how naive I am. I wouldn't have believed a senior judge would, or even could, behave in this way.
