Let me attempt to clarify something with the little knowledge I possess.

As far as I know the are 4 types of spiritual healers...

They are as follows :

*Amaghedla
*Izanusi
*Izangoma
*abaprofeti

Within all these healers only Izangoma have indumba /Umsamo where they do duties such as Ukuphahla (to connect with their God and ancestral spirits), ukuhlola, (foresseing) ukulapha, (Healing) ukufemba, (Peforming African excorcism) ukuthwasisa (Innitiating amathwasa)

and Abaprofeti have indawo yamaladi / an Altar where biblically there was a place in the synagogy that prophets would use to Pray and offer animal sacrifices, ge ba dira tiro ya setsheso.

Izanusi only have a prayer / consultation room.

Amagedla have chemists to store imithi to heal people when they are is shown by ancestors.

It is not easy to know as Who is who, WhO does What? Since, there are people with multiple healing gifts and others with a calling.

Igedla is a person that dreams of herbs, its knowledge and be show what they do heal. They would go and dig up those herbs and go to the house of that patient and heal that person as shown in dreams without having Indumba, Bones and innitiate people (Thwasisa)

There's a new wave of Amagedla who now practice as Abaprofeti & Izangomas by doing consultation, learning muti that does magic, opening the third eye and also do izigubhu that is a direct competition to igono lobunyanga.

Izanusi are people that are gifted to be good in overseeing what is to come same as people like Nostradamus who can deeply predicts bigger things that are not seeming possible on the national or international scale (Baba Credo Mutwa) was 1.

NBIsanusi is another type of a healer who specialises in making sense in cases that needs a 3rd eye solution, they usually refer patients to the Nyanga (igedla), Isangoma or African religious prophet for herbal healing or healing at large.

Isangoma (A Traditional/Spiritual healer) is a person that doesnt only have a Spiritual gift (isiphiwo) but, also a Spiritual calling (ubizo) and have to undergo a certain training conducted by a certain Sangoma as well when responding to their calling.

Sangomas do the work of both Igedla and Isanusi. These are people who can foresee things either through Dreams, Visions, Bone reading, Umhlahlo, Using mirror to open a 3rd eye and also heal people using Herbs or Plants, Animals & or Natural resources.

Isangoma is another type of a Healer which its practice is mostly common with people in our days due to public activities with people as Imigido, ukuthwasisa . amongst them we have Abahlahli, Abafembi those who have different models of healing.

Abaprofeti are church based who they also foresee or prophesy people's problems,they can also heal using some types of Iziwasho from old to new, These are type of healers who believes in Isithunywa and prayer than umphahlo and uses the biblical or Quraanic culture to practice.

I have tried to define these types of Healers mostly found in the Southern African from Igedla, Isanusi,Isangoma, Umprofeti. We turn to be confused to know as Who is What and Who does What?

It is true that some healers sould not be innitiated or go under a certain training as a Thwasa and those are people like Amaghedla ,ne Zanusi.

And as for Abaprofeti according to some scriptures bayaphakanyiselwa abathwasiswi same goes with a person that has ilozi or abalozi.

At the end of the day, we are all healers.
